Atmosphere was horrible because of construction outside and no other patrons in the restaurant. Was not particularly clean inside.
Food is too expensive compared with other Ottawa sushi restaurants. Food was prepared by an entry-level chef with little imagination or skill. Rice was stale. Will not return.
First time at Kinki. Would recommend ! Food was decent, server was fun-quirky, and the late night vibe was boss.
Like the decor. Good service, food and music.
Great place. Love the kinky artwork and delicious sushi. A little on the expensive side but the sushi was delicious. Combination of ingrediants you wouldn't find in a typical sushI restaurant. I would definitely recommend this place.
Food and service were great. Pleasant surprise as it was my first visit.
First time guest at Kinki. Appitizers were great. Main was average. Service was excellent. A very loud event was on the night we went which we weren't aware of ahead of time otherwise we would have come on a different night. Lots of coarse language and hard to converse at the table.
The staff there are super friendly and the food is very good
the food was good but it is a bit loud
would not recommend for lunchtime. service terrible. food average at best, did not have the pho, or the pork belly, frustrating. music stopped for 10 minutes, and as the only patrons for the 1.5 hour lunch.. this was disturbing and lackadasical
The atmosphere was nice but the service was ok. Some of the food we ordered was good. Although the tempura was way to greasy and the coconut soup salty. The sushi was good but the rice could have been stickier. It was coming apart. Overall this was my first visit and I can't say it was wow... it was just ok.
The prices are high for what we got but I will try it again as I've had friends go and they loved it so maybe it was just the night... It was a slow as it was a Tuesday.
Good service and food. Edemame was fantastic. Would certainly go back.
Clearly not a place to eat. Sushis were not fresh and we suspect they came from the nearest grocery store...
It's a beautiful spot, and the food and drinks were great. Service was a little slow, and they took a while to open the back patio, and then it took them an hour to turn on the music, and we had to ask for it. But such a beautiful patio.
I already left a review on Yelp, but I'll copy it here as well so that everyone knows what kind of establishment this is.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS RESTAURANT. Kinki shot for the moon and landed in the seventh circle of culinary hell, complete with revolting food and extremely rude, entitled management. My family and I had a horrible experience here today. Right off the bat, the plates and utensils were crusted with old food and had to be exchanged by our waitress. The sushi was overpriced and tasted like mildew. Thank god the portions were so small because I couldn't have forced down any more than I did. I promise you would be better off eating discounted end-of-the-day grocery store sushi.
We tried to use a groupon and were told that the restaurant doesn't accept them on Canada Day, which is understandable. HOWEVER, instead of informing us politely, the staff were extremely curt and rude, pretending to be too busy to speak with us for more than 10 seconds at a time despite the restaurant being half empty. But wait, there's more! The owner's husband was the absolute worst part of the entire experience. First, he completely ignored me while I asked every employee at the bar if I could speak to a manager right in front of him. After we paid, I waited patiently in order to speak with him about my family's dissatisfying experience, only to watch him SNEAK THROUGH THE KITCHEN TO HIDE IN HIS OFFICE until I gave up and left after another 20 minutes.
Needless to say, this sham of an establishment left a horrible taste in my mouth, literally and figuratively. Truly a business that couldn't care less about its customers. If you don't believe me, scroll down and read the owner's passive aggressive replies to any negative reviews. The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is its interesting decor, which is shamefully wasted on such an awful establishment. I regret spending a single second of my Canada Day here. Where's the Canadian hospitality? Our founding fathers are probably rolling in their graves.
NOTE: the owner replied to the above review on Yelp, calling it a "false account" and insisted that all of their staff were cordial, even going so far as to accuse me of trying to take advantage of small businesses. In response, I'd like to say that I have absolutely no incentive to provide a false account of what happened, nor have I ever dared to give a one-star rating to any restaurant in the past. I made it clear in my review that the holiday policy was not the problem. Rather, I was upset about the way my family was treated in response to the incident by the rude staff & management. The only exception was our server, who was very sweet and even apologized on behalf of the owner's husband because she "didn't know why he was being like that". It is incredibly irresponsible of this restaurant's management to point fingers at their customers every time they have a negative experience at their establishment.
The food was excellent, we would have ordered another snap dragon sushi roll if we'd had time! The service was very good but seeing other employees belongings cluttering the space in the restaurant was unprofessional. We would go again!
Its my third time there, the food is always fantastic!!! Nice atmosphere and best sushi in town.
I am very disappointed with my recent experience at Kinki Lounge. I visited the lounge on Saturday, April 16th for my birthday and made a reservation for 13 people at 10:30 pm. Upon arrival, the manager greeted us and was familiar with my reso and informed me that a table was set up for less than I had requested ? totally fine, we would be able to add on to the table later on in the night. What started this experience off to a bad start was the service, not from the manager, but from the server. After sitting for around 10-15 minutes, a server still hadn?t come by, we weren?t given any menus, no drinks, nothing. We had thought maybe we were to order drinks at the bar instead so we went to the bar and asked and shortly after that?s when our server finally attended to us and gave us our drink and food menus.
The food and drinks were tasty, the atmosphere was fun, and the DJ was great, however, it was the service that made this overall experience a huge disappointment and very unacceptable. Someone from my party had to leave early and she asked our server for the bill. She got the bill and after waiting 20 minutes to pay the server she handed me her bill along with some cash to cover her drink plus tips. As she was walking out of the restaurant, the server goes chasing after her, ?Umm excuse me, where do you think you?re going?? It is evident that she was in a rush as she asked for her bill and was leaving alone as the rest of the party was still there. This is unacceptable to say to a patron, it was clear she was in a rush even after waiting 20 minutes.
At the end of the night, I got the bill and it was $107.92, I asked to pay $20 in cash (from my friend who had left earlier) and the rest on credit. The server took extremely long to come back with the bill only to find out that she did not take the $20 off and came back with a bill of $99. The manager came by and asked if I enjoyed my birthday and how my night went and this is when I shared my experience from that night. He sat me down and I shared with him everything ? from not getting menus/served, to what the server said to my friend, to overall experience. He offered a round of shots to which I decline and said my group and I were going elsewhere. He was persistent with the shots and after declining every offer he then offered 25% off of the bill to which I accepted. Manager came back after a while with the ?fixed? bill and it was $87.92. This is where I draw the line ? after expressing my bad experience with the manager he should have tried to fix the issue in a timely manner. Instead, he kept me waiting and did not give me the discount as he offered.
I would have happily recommended the place and definitely have returned had the service been better. Again, the food and drinks were extremely tasty, the $100 bottles was a great deal, but the overall experience was extremely disappointing and I will never return back to Kinki.
